The Fate Of A Proposed Mobile Phone Tower
Newcastle Herald
Wednesday June 21, 2006
THE fate of a proposed mobile phone tower at Lambton is almost certain to be decided in the Land and Environment Court, because Newcastle City Council has rejected Telstra's controversial plans a second time.
Telstra had sought to erect a 23.5-metre monopole on land leased by Lambton Bowling Club off Karoola Road but there was strong opposition from Lambton residents.Lord Mayor John Tate argued last night that federal legislation allowed Telstra to "walk all over us with these applications". He said the rejection would cost ratepayers "about $20,000 in the Land and Environment Court fighting something we're highly unlikely to win".
